    Default CD70 firmware update problem

    Hi
Trying to upgrade my unit to Aux In hardware mod.

The original language cd (2005) as well as the new firmware update disc (2008) will not work.

If I insert either cd it reads SW:CD then ejects.

The navi cd works perfect 2005 & 2010

I have access to Vaux-Com is there something needs sorting in there first, I cant see it myself but who knows ?

    TIA

Are they both original disks or copys? If there copys dont attempt to try them as they could brick your cd70.

I don't think that there is an issue regarding software that can be addressed with Vaux-Com, however I have noted previously that you need the following situation to get the disk to work.

Turn on ignition (engine does not need to be running)

Set the Head-Unit source to the Radio (Not CD or Nav).

    Then insert the Firmware CD.

Let it do it's thing for about 15 minutes or so..

    Job done...

I have found that the firmware CD has been ignored in the past, if I have been in CD or Nav mode.

    Hope that helps..

    Hmm

I've tried every combination trying to get either of the discs to load
but it's not having any of it.

I really need the Aux in hardware mod done but looks like I cant get past the first hurdle.

All I can suggest is that you take the CD back to the issueing dealer and tell him it doesn't work... you'll either get a refund, or a working disk - hopefully.

Regarding the Aux-In mod..are you doing this yourself, or getting someone else to do this..
If someone is doing it for you...
Most people who do this mod for you, will do the update for you whilst they have your unit.

All Software update disc's are being ejected, I have tried 6 different ones now all originals and all are ejected.

The Navi disc's are working perfect though so the Navi cd drive must be ok

    I'll be doing it myself.

I have component level assembly experience building my own PSU's and amps.

    But.............

If nothing comes good in the next day or two

I'm probably going to throw out the CD70

And put something sensible in there with Navi, DVD, USB, Bluetooth, etc etc.

To be honest, getting an aftermarket unit will probably be the best and cheapest option..
The CD70 is very limited.. it has no audible POI alerts, it is not possible to program in speed cameras or other POI's

Also for it's age, you would have thought that VX would have fitted Aux-In as a standard item... but then again, they were still giving out cassette players as an option in 2005 (CC20).

So - for what you want, aftermarket is the most effective option.

Obviously, the down side is that you will need to buy a facia adapter plate, and also a manufacturer specific steering wheel adapter loom

You can recoup some of the cost by selling the CD70 on ebay... they normally go for between £300 and £500, dependent upon age, what's included and display type

I was under much the same impression as you Lee, but it seems that lots of the newer harnesses for steering controls will allow for changing the time/date etc.

Wish it had been around when i had my aftermarket HU.. as it was a right pita to remove in install the CD30 to get the clock to change.
