Unhappy 04 2.2direct spanner light and limp home mode

    Hi everybody.
having a real down day. had my 04 vectra 2,2direct sri for 3 months now with nothing wrong and suddenly when leaving my parents house today, car didn't feel right when I started it, then 2 minutes later had what felt like a missfire. and idling was very slightly off. 5 more minutes down the road spanner light came on and went into limp home mode. pulled over left it for 5 minutes then started normally and drove for 200 metres no problems then light back on and limped home. when looking under the bonnet I noticed an electrical whirring noise for about 20 seconds after turning engine off. I have tried the diy fault reading using the pedals and ignition but that doesn't work on my car. any ideas, tips or assistance from anyone in the Worcester area would be greatly appreciated.

You'll need to get codes read before trying anything really, at a guess it could be the Fuel Pressure regulator playing up, or maybe the fuel pump is going fubar... Hopefully somebody local can help you get the codes, or I guess its off to a garage..

In any case, you might be able to put in at the dealers to get the fuel pressure regulator checked out/replaced for free (and codes read) as the regulator was part of a recall... Dunno if they're still sorting them now, my 05 direct went in last year and they still did it then..

Sounds similar to what happened to me mate, i was stationary waiting at school for the daughter, then drove off, spanner and then into limp mode.

AA couldnt get the codes as the car wasnt throwing any out, towed to a garage and they told me it was the fuel reg, but this had just been changed, anyhow off to Vx the same night and left it there, turned out to be the HP fuel pump.

Whats on yours just now, siemens or continental ??

I had identical problem to yours dude, mine turned out to be the fuel pressure regulator......done free by vx as its a recall. Get it booked in for recall and if that doesnt help its defo the fuel pump next lol.......

AA came out for mine when this happened and told me that my cam chain had snapped lol.......I told him its defo not chain as it will start and drive for 100-200 yards then loose all power.

But try the free fix first and get onto the dealers tomorrow with your vin......

I have to correct my write up. come to think of it I have had a couple of drives where the car didn't feel like it was firing on all cylinders lacking power and now when idling seems the same. rough idle and doesn't seem to be firing on all cylinders.

Also talk to VX customer service they should contribute towards the Fuel pump cost. It's a known issue and been on the watch Dog programme.

Two years back I initiated the thread and we all wrote to BBC watch Dog. I think it's a time we all should start writing to them again b/c VX didn't listen and they still charging people for this Design fault/Manufacturing problem.
