Exclamation Fitting a starter motor - can someone please explain how2

    Hiya,

Not had a chance yet but could someone please explain to me how to change the starter motor on my vectra 2.0 dti estate 2004.

I will need to do this with the battery hooked up because I don't have the code for the radio and don't want to lose this....

thanks guys - going to do this tomorrow

You wont be able to do it with the battery connected because you have a battery live (And its a thick one too) going to it that you need to remove.

Unless you are prepared with a dictionary of swear words and prepared to loose some skin, I would stick it in a garage. And i didnt have a turbo in the road! Mine cost me 60 quid in labour.

I did mine it it took me a while and plenty of skint knuckles and swear words lol
You have to disconnect battery and iirc there's 4 torx nuts holding on heat shield, then theres another 2 torx nuts holding the starter motor bracket right behind turbo half way down back of engine ( these are the ones that gave me most grief)

Then there's a bolt going through gearbox into starter and one below, then you have to undo bolts for power cable and earth lead on starter.
There's not a lot of room because of down pipe and drive shafts i think in haynes manual it tells you to remove down pipe but i just managed but its very tight
