    Default CD70 GPS antennae

    Hi

Just a heads up from a CD70 upgrade I just done.

I tried 3 different cheapo e-bay GPS antenna's with no luck.
I messed around with placing the unit everywhere inside the car with little or no success over the last few weeks,
absolute nightmare, unless the GPS unit was mounted outside the car on the metal body, I got no signal.

So after conceding these units were poorly made (you get what you pay for) analogy ...............

I ended up with the £19.99 GPS unit from Maplins part number A85HA

I had to fit a Fakra plug to it ( http://www.co-star.co.uk/products-de...de=FC-GPS-F174 ), but I really wished I had done this the first time and save so much time and money.

I had the Maplins GPS unit on the car floor as I plugged it in to test it and GPS signal came up in seconds, so after fitting it to the underside of the dash centre speaker cover with the double sided tape provided with the GPS unit, I now have no signal delay after turning on the CD70 , the GPS is ready immediately.

Now to sort out my jittery mp3 cd's

Its a crimp type that I fitted.

But you could carefully solder the screening
and use shrink wrap to make it a neat secure job.

I used an E-bay bought antenna for a VW / Audi set-up, but also a Tom Tom Go antenna works also..

For a jittery MP3 player, then you need to pull out the head unit..
Take out the upper drive from the casing.
Wind the laser sledge out using the cog mechanism, until you can get to the laser lens with a Q-tip / Cotton bud..

I used a dry one on mine three years ago, and it hasn't missed a beat since.
You could use a dampened cotton bud, but don't use any harsh chemicals..

Think you are missing the point.. The VW / Audi aerial is used in the wife's Vectra-C with CD70 (The first to be retro fitted on this forum)
And the Tom Tom one is fitted to my Cavalier (Vectra-A) with CD70.. the only one. So both in Vauxhall cars with CD70's..

I was cautious about the cleaning solution as the lens is a plastic item, so oil based chemicals will eat into the plastic and damage it permanently.

    Ok

    That's a bit clearer.

The TomTom aerial has a Fakra connection, I thought it was mmcx/mmx ?

Anyway my point was to avoid the cheapo's of course there's going to be members with.....

    "bought cheapo works great"

but it's just my experience after following a link provided here to an e-bay aerial.

    Also

The cd is only skipping/jittery on MP3 discs

    Normal cd's are ok.

Is there a preferred format for mp3 burning and cd70's ?

I burn my MP3 CD's using Nero Express. Never had a problem unless the disc itself was damaged.

I guess a lens cleaner would be your first port of call to see if that helps any with the MP3 side of life.
