Question Need Cambelt Change Advice Guys...(1.8 Z18XE)

    Alright all ...

I've now done 4600 trouble free miles in my veccy, miles now read 65600 (bought her with 61k on the clock I think). The cam-belt was changed by the previous owner at a dealership (motorbodies Luton) at 29k miles, though not the waterpump. :|

Based on that I'm thinking of getting the cambelt changed in the next week or so, along with waterpump, auxilary belt, and anything else that needs doing, question is,

    What else would need doing?

How much should I expect to pay from both Vauxhall dealer and independent garage?

And, should I insisit on genuine OEM parts i.e. idlers etc, as I've seen the 1.9 CDTi's are having problems with aftermarket items and the OEM one costs around £170...

Your replies are appreciated fellas (and ladies lol).

    Harry

£105 for the Belt kit inc new idlers from the dealers or around £55 for a genuine VX kit off ebay, sure its 2.1 hours labour or 2.7 with a new water pump. Buy Genuine from ebay and get an independent to fit would be my suggestion. I did mine with my neighbour keeping an eye on me(hes a mechanic) and we didn't take much longer than an hour doing it on the street. 1.9cdti have issues because they are 10 years or 100k and in a lot of cases its down to the water pump failing. Just as well changing the coolant at the same time. Red OAT antifreeze is as cheap from the dealers as any motor factors.

Brilliant thats what I needed to know...!

I've a habit of getting the cambelt changed no later than 45k - 50k anyways so all should be well...100k is a Lot of miles to do on a belt and waterpump though man, almost like how Vettel used the Pirelli's yesterday.

Looks like i'll buy the Kit and take it to an indy for fitting. In terms of waterpump, are there any that I should avoid...?
