Default Towbar fitted - exhaust now banging

    Hi all,

Fitted a Towequipe removable bar to the Vectra at the weekend, however when driving the car, there seems to be quite a bit of "banging" coming from the back of the car. I assume this is the exhaust hitting the bolts.

Has anyone else had this problem and been able to overcome it? As it's the 100 edition SRI, it has twin exit exhausts, maybe making the noise doubly loud!

I can't think of anything else it could be te be honest.

    Thanks

Park half on pavement or reverse on to ramps to be able to get underneath.

With engine cold try moving the zorst around with your hand and try to recreate the noise. If its banging you should be able to find the noise.

Should make any difference as the towbar is bolted on the back panel. The bolts should not go anywhere near the exhaust.

When I fitted my tow equipe bar to my first vectra there was loads of room.

The bolts are directly above the exhaust backbox on both sides.

I had this very problem on my Signum.
I pinched one of the rubber hangers on the back box together with a couple of cable ties. It doesn't slop around on the hanger so much now. It's stopped it knocking on the towbar bolt when I go over rough roads, of which there are plenty around here.

I know they are directly above, but you should'nt see any problems.

I had the same problem with my V6 cdti, I got slightly longer exhaust hangers from my local tyre n exhaust centre and that resolved the problem.
Towbar I had was a witter detatchable.
After a while I fitted original VXR boxes and that cured the problem with plenty of clearance.

Ive got the same problem on my signum knocking from the rear which im 99% sure is the exhaust knocking on the towbar bolts. Its a bosal detachable swan neck. Think i will try the cable tie method.

Found out this was the Offside exhaust box banging on the towbar and not the bolts. I'm going to just remove the whole thing and refit when I need it - pain in the ass but stops the banging!
