    Default Diesel Engine Oil

    I have a 3.0 V6 CDTI Estate. Covered 15'000 since its last service and yesterday the oil light came on. I pulled over to check and the oil level was just on the dipstick. I know the oil was done on the last service but to use all the oil in 15'000 miles or 7 months seems excessive. There is no sign of a leak on the engine and no drips on my drive. I cannot see any smoke when driving or when revving it on the drive. Most of my driving is at motorway speeds 75-80mph using cruise control at about 2000 revs. Anyone got any ideas what the problem may be?

    1lt between the high and the low and about half again, so about 1.5 lt in 15K doesn't sound that bad tbh.

    Never had to even top up any of my vauxhalls so using almost 4 litres in 15'000 miles seems excessive

    It is ESSENTIAL in a diesel engine to check the oil level at regular intervals, at least weekly / 500 miles

    The MIN to MAX is about 2.0 litres
    Therefore MAX to the bottom of the dipstick is about 2.5 litre

    When checking the oil level, always do this with the engine warm, and NOT hot NOR cold

    My 3.0 V6 CDTI requires 2 litres just before it reaches the next service, typically at 15K miles
    Compare that to other VX engines which can consume 1 litre every 1K miles

    this is exactly why i dont agree with 20k service intervals ! it gives the impression that the car wont need any attention for that period ! not good

    These cars (this member and myself) have 30K miles / 2 years intervals
    The 2 years is standard, covering the bodywork, suspension, etc, and the mileage is based on oil quality
    Providing you use GM-LL specification oil there are no issues
    If you swap to standard oil, then the service interval (simply for the oil) needs to drop to 10K miles

    My car has been serviced at 30K mile intervals without any issues
    The rest has simply been due to wear and tear due to high speed and high stress use

    thats for a full chanhe not a top up lol. 1k every 10 - 20 k miles aint bad. my bike used a litre in 500 miles once, never did figure out why lol
