Default Help!! Power steering making strange noise

Just been out in the vec and when we started it up there was a noise coming from under the bonnet so i had a look but couldn't really identify where it was coming from. it then started to quieten down so on we went. Got back in it from the shops and as soon as i started it up the noise came back, not to loud just a low droning sound, as i turned the wheel it stopped. when i didn't turn the wheel it returned, so im guessing its the power steering pump.

Tried to find the reservoir for the fluid but i cannot see it anywhere under the bonnet, just hoping it needs more fluid,

    any ideas anyone ???? thanks

the tank is either in the drivers wheel arch or on the bulkhead bud sounds like it could be low on fluid

Lots of posts about power steering fluid, search "central hydraulic fluid". They recommend you use vauxhall CHF (central hydraulic fluid) to top up which is green. Mixing fluids not recommended. HTH

If it's like mine, in the driver's wheel arch, can be difficult to top up. Remove the wheel and arch-liner. Reach in and remove the cap (green bottle), then there's a little filter in the neck of the bottle. Lift this out. It's hard to see the level, so put your finger in and feel for the fluid. To top it up, I placed a length of hose pipe down from the top, into the bottle, and poured teh fluid in that way.

I only needed about half a litre, but the steering is now a lot smoother and silent now. That was 12k miles ago, I checked the level again and it's not dropped a bit. So no leaks.

    Hope this helps

Have you checked the fluid level?
