    Default Help With Battery/Alternator

    So i was driving to MK the other day and got 3 miles down the road and the battery light came on...thought ok well i'll keep going and hopefully the battery will charge.

    5 miles further and i lose powersteering so turned round and came back, another 5 miles and i lost ABS and traction control then a mile later everything in the dash went dark and even the needles got stuck.

    I have read on here its likely to be the alternator so i'm about to get a jump start so i can get it to the garage but wanted to test the alternator voltage.

    Where do i need to put the multimeter points, i know nothing about cars lol.

    Car is a Vectra Elite CDTI 150 2.0 55 plate.

    On the battery terminals when the engine is running. Red to +VE and black to -VE, you should see 13+ volts when the engine is running but to be honest it sounds like your alternator is U/S without the need to test it.

    18V then dropped to 16v then car cut out
    Getting recovered now and its probably fubar'd the battery too.

    Yip - knackered alternator and its prob goosed the battery also!
