Venturing in to the unknown. iPod connection/adaptor?

Well I picked up my new vectra today - very impressed. It's an 06plate cdti sri 150. It has the satnav pack. The ashtray lifts out and underneath it is a plug socket. Is this the 'external input' I see in the stereo source options and is there an iPod adaptor I can get to plug in to this?

External input is the message given when the radio is muted by a telephone kit - the wiring for this will probably not be in the car as my 55 reg did not have it - if it is then it would have to have been ordered originally and will be hidden behind the glovebox.

The connection will be for the OBD and the small amount of wiring there will be for the cigarette lighter I guess.

So then is there a recommended way to get an iPod in the mix without changing the head unit?

From what I have read you can adapt the CD70 to take an Aux input however the other way would be an aftermarket ipod kit.

And sorry to sound like I know nothing but an aftermarket iPod kit like???.???
