    Default Swirl valve question

Hi all I've got the 150 cdti and I've had no problems at all touch wood lol but I'm getting a bit worried about the swirl valve. Is there anything I can do to it to avoid the problems? Thanks Gaz

No, not really. Just say your prayers every day and thank him above at the end of each day that you still do not have the problem.

Yours is registered in 2007, if it's registered after July '07 then you should be fine as that's when the updated manifolds were fitted to the CDTI's in the factory.

I've just checked the log book and it was registered on 12tb July 07 so do you think it might be the updated one?

It may the new one. The part number is stamped near the top of it (don't know it off hand). Is the swirl bar connected? If so you may be alright.

i don't think it matters. i've read threads on later manifolds beig replaced. they will last longer than the early ones though as the bearing are uprated on the flaps. the oil and soot that ingresses into the inlet isn't prevented though, so over time the sludge will still form and build up. replaced mine last year and it is already showing signs of crud settling in there.

There are ways to prevent the crud build up, but most on the road will be on the way to failure though. If recently replaced though, there are a couple of things that can be done to drastically reduce the risk of this happening in the future.

Many threads on here though, so no point making a new one.

yeah semi blanking or fully blanking egr (with egr delete remap) and also reducing the oil ingress by capturing this and venting it to atmosphere or a catch tank. i've semi blanked, but not dealt with the oil.

as you said, there are numerous threads on these so people can hunt them down if desired

Ive got a 2006 3.0cd and it has been in the local dealer with swirl flap problems, they think it needs a new manifold & flaps, but i have read on the forum that you can have them open all the time except I don't know where they are to attempt it, any body have any idea where they are on the V6, looks like they might be buried somewhere, any pictures would be fantastic.
