Default Oil change, pain in the a###

Well just completed an oil change on the gearbox and engine, Signum 150 CDTi.
Gearbox oil change was a breeze thanks to the 'How to' without removing the battery tray.
The engine oil, well what a stupid place to put the filter, and that under tray, had to take it all off.
They certainly don't make it easy these days for the home mechanic working on the drive.
After reading also about how some have had problems removing the drain plugs, mine thankfully came undone ok with no drama.
Anyway all done now and hopefully a smoother gear change will be a good result.

Last time I had my tray off I cut along the hinge, separating the flap from the tray then drilled pairs of holes each side of the cut. Then simply zip tied the holes together. Any time you need to take the flap off, just cut the ties.

Yeah, that's why I like doing it, and you know it's been done properly with the correct oil etc..

Trouble is now my old bones are not what they used to be, I'm suffering today with all that grovelling about under the car. Got the EGR to take off now and clean, think I'll have a rest day

My Vectra came without the under-tray, complete with a rounded sump nut.

Took me 3 hours with various tools... grinder... easy outs, only to find the new sump nut was too small - resorted to using an exhaust lambda sensor to plug it.

Oil filter I attacked from the top of the engine reaching down - that was overtightened.

Gearbox oil I found to be a doddle - the drainplug was already loose, so saved me the hassle. I had to remove the battery tray to access the fill point, but wasnt too time consuming as someone had already disconnected the cable guides & left the glow plug relay hanging down towards the bottom of the engine.

I never bought any replacement gearbox/sump plugs, reused the existing one's. Would have been a different story had I mashed em up though.
There are no washers originally fitted to the fill or drain plugs anyway on the gearbox, which is surprising.
