Default Engine Fault Light - Water in Diesel Fuel Filter?

    Hi Guys,

Since last week, the yellow car light with spanner in the middle has been staying on after start up until about 2 minutes after driving off - it then disappears. It has done this about 4 times.

I have had the car plugged in and no fault codes were present/everything was as normal. I have read in the manual that this is displayed on diesel engines if there is water in the fuel filter?

I have noticed the car has been really condensating when I give it some but then it has been -12 recently. Today it didn't condensate at all.

All seems fine - no issues at all. Replaced thermostat on weekend along with vacuum hose pipes and car is running lovely.

    What do you think?

    Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Sounds like a glow plug or 2, mate.

Does the spanner light only show for 2 minutes when the engine's cold?

Well I normally let the car warm up (not that the temp needle moves until driving) as I hate starting the car and going straight away in cold weather. It has only done it 3 or 4 times..

I wouldn't say it was when engine was cold as it seems to go when I get moving?? Not sure

If you have a faulty glow plug, you'll notice the spanner light will stay on when you start the car from cold, ie, first start of the day in the morning, and it will disappear after a few minutes. If it statys on at every start (warm or cold), then may need to investigate further a little

Yeh I'll keep an eye on it. Had it plugged in straight away to check for any faults and the mechanic who is a lecturer to other mechanics (I trust him wholly) said all is well. If it was a glow plug that's no major issue am I right?

Totally right. Can only get worse tho. May lead to poor starting in the morning eventually. Keep an eye on it. Maybe a new set of plugs in the near future?
