    Default Astra flat battery............

been driving an astra every day for a year.

left on drive for a week, battery went flat!!

jumped from another car (veccy ) started first time
    two days later................battery flat!!!

jumped from another car (veccy) started first time
took it for a quick run, all OK

    next day (today)...................battery flat!!!

how long a journey would it take to fully charge battery?

sounds like its goosed, jump it and get the multi meter out, you want 12v with the engine off and 14 V with the engine running if your not getting 14 v your alternator may have gone to heaven, if you are getting 14 v take t for a 20 mile trip out and see what charge the battey has once you turn ignition off.
