    confused Oil issues????

    Hi guys,
You all seem to know more than i ever do so its always easier to ask. Ive got a 52 Gsi and now and then the oil level light comes on, i pull over, give it 5 mins to drop into the sump, check the oil level and all is fine..... i thought id buy some oil just to be safe and when i went to top it up there was a wierd white gel/oil substance on the top of the oil filler spout as if the engine is throwing some crap up at it???
Any idea's and should i think about getting it checked? it only had a major service and obviously oil change 4k miles ago.

    cheers guys
    gaz

White gunge in the oil is water getting in. If it's only a very small amount it's fairly normal from condensation especially if you only do short runs in the car, if there's quite a bit of it, you may have a head gasket gone.

Id clean the oil breathers out, do an oil change and get a new oil pressure switch and take it from there.

Are you loosing any coolant at all ?

work has been done, slight leak on the rocker cover gasket which was leaking a lil bit of oil but no coolant loss..... seeing how this work goes if it comes back ill get it sorted, thanks

didnt the gsi have the issue with the longer oil filler neck causing more condensation thus making it seem like mayonaise in the rocker

i think most people removed the long neck and the problem went away

    Exactly that Mark!

Don't worry, as long as its just in the filler its normal. The filler is in the cold air stream so water condenses in there and mixes = Mayo.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!
