    Default 2.2 chain help.

Having been looking at Z22se.co.uk (forum just for the GM petrol 2.2) the biggest topic seams to be cam chain failures. Not the actual chain at fault but the oil jets to the chain getting blocked and causing the chain to snap. My question is has it been sorted on the vec c 2.2 (non direct). Am sure it has but just want to be sure.

There was a program to recall and modify the cars..

the main cars to be affected were the vectra B and the Omega..

Most Vectra C should be fine..the best way to make sure you don't get affected is to keep the oil fresh and changed regularly to stop it tarring.

Cheers, due for a oil change in 3000 miles. Cars in the dealers with the head off again looking for an oil leak. Going to ring them on monday and make sure it has the newer oil jet in. So far its taken about a year to fix! First of all the replaced the rocker gasket, then the head, now no oil on the outside of the engine but still using over 1L of oil per 1000 miles. My bet is the head gasket as its using more oil now than before they changed the head.

excessive oil consumption would lead me towards either bores or valve stem seals..

sounds like they're trying to do the cheapest fixes 1st.. why they haven't just changed the whole unit is beyond me..

only on the carry over stock..these and the other cars would have had a 'dealer mod' while the cars were in for service..

it's a failing of the extended service intervals, letting the already small oil jet holes bung up with oil that is starting to tar..A more regular servicing regime ( say 10,000 miles) will prevent even non-modified cars having trouble with the spray holes..

I would caution against doing an engine oil flushing in this engine thou as with the small drillings it's best to not have lumps of carbon removed from elsewhere in the engine and trying to pass them through small holes.

    GSI 3.2's right.

I had an Astra Coupe 2.2 2002 model and I had my dealer replace the jets
to make sure it didn't happen to me.

It was mostly Vectra B and Omegas that had the problem but some
mk4 astra had it aswell. As far as I'm aware though it was sorted on all 2.2's registered after April 2002.

Just to be sure though I changed my Oil every 8000 miles
It's a lot cheaper than having the chain snap.

I wouldn't think you'll need to worry about yours though
i just became paranoid after finding mine needed to be done.

Also 2.2's do tend to use a bit more oil than other cars, but not as much
as you seem to be losing, hope you get it fixed m8.

They changed the head so valve stem seals should be ok. Its a 2004 (53 plate) so hopefully the jet has been done. As for the bores ive only done 27k and running standard VX filter.
As for the service intervals im on the 20000 or should I say 16000 miles but am going to do my own interim from now on.

well, the mileage you've done is not really relevant..If the rings didn't bed into the bores well then the car will consume more oil..

how they bed in is all down to the honed finish when the engine is manufactured and the oil the engine is first run on..too thin an oil will not help..

get them to check for glazed bores if they haven't already done so.. either that or just push them for a new engine..i think you've stuck with it long enough to warrant one..

TBH the service desk staff where I take it seem to bend over backwards for me but the tecies just seam to be plain ****. Not going to take it back to where I bought it as there worse and had to get onto Griffin House about them as the air con wasnt working when I bought it and they wouldnt fix it under warranty. Will give Dixons another chance and if they dont sort it this time think ill try JCT 600 in bradford.
