Fitting Thermostat 120 CDTI Help !!

Got everything undone but im stumped on how to take off the metal tube that's attached to the bolt at the bottom of the stat ?

Any ideas folks

its an absolute t**t mate. did mine 6 months ago. there are another 2 bolts/nuts somewhere round the back of the engine. think they are under the egr valve. i took off most of the bits on the right rear side of the engine to get into these. oh and there is a metal braid hose to undo from the back of it as well.

this brings back memorys,the words what sorta c..t designed that,
i cut the bracket off as didnt want to go disturbing the egr cooler gaskets and god noes what else,once brackets cut away 20 minute job,thats over a year ago now and no probs, a nice quick 87 degrees,
hope that helps,i no im not the only one who resorted to the hacksaw

He's right - did mine and cut the bracket off - I undid and disconnected everything I could find connected to it and it was still solid and prevents you taking the threaded stud out, and releasing the bottom half of thermostat housing. Carefully cut through the bracket - its thick stainless steel and you will need an angle grinder to get through it - it doesn' t do any harm - I then removed the stud and cut off the threaded stud turning it into a normal bolt, and will make any future repairs a lot easier. Crap (Fiat) design.

Don't know how you did it with a hacksaw - I tried and it wouldn't look at it

Thanks guys, got a quote of £45 to get it changed at a garage so will leave them with the hassle , i thought about cutting the bracket but couldn't fit anything in there

took me bout an hour with hacksaw,had to break it in half and had about an inch of movement,everytime i hot my knuckles i though of the tit who designed it lol,was gona use a grinder but feared if i slipped what a ****** mess that would be,

Your a better man than me if you did it with a hacksaw - I tried and it wouldn't look at it. The other way to do it is cut off the threaded length of stud that goes through the bracket and that leaves you a bolt in the bottom hole of the thermostat flange. Undo every thing you can that is connected to the stainless heat exchanger and then bend the bracket away from the bolt head you have made - undo the bolt and the upper bolt and you should be able to remove the housing with the bottom bolt still in the hole in the flange. when the thermostat is out (have a few beers) you can easily get access to cut the bracket off with a small angle grinder. Fitting the new one without the bracket in place is a doddle
