Hi, might have some oil on the engine block that obviously doesn't get as hot as the exhaust and is burning off a bit slower - usually get more fumes when stationary as the moving air disperses the fumes when on the move. After a run lift your bonnet and you may might be able to see whisps of smoke if it is burning oil. Shouldn't worry too much if there are no visible leaks or pooling underneath

Interesting, as I noticed the same after service, also assumed oil on exhaust.

It will be due to oil on the exhaust flexible joint under the oil filter housing. The Diesel exhaust doesn't get as hot as a petrol engine's one, so it takes a lot longer to burn the oil off.

Spraying it with a solvent of some sort, such as brake cleaner (whilst cold though, eh? ) will remove the oil and stop the smell.
