    Default knocking / grinding noise

When driving to work this morning the car suddenly developed a knock when going over uneven ground and bumps. It sounds like its coming from the centre of the car but not sure. I have had new droplinks and strut tops few weeks back so its not them, i still have my inner and outer tie rods to do could these cause the noise? One of my inner ones had play and was an advisory in MOT just wonder if theres anything i am not thinking of? Other thing i know that needs sorted is my flexi pipe could that cause problem?

Car is going in to get looked at on friday just looking for other ideas, most of the threads in search are just saying strut tops or drop links.

    Any ideas?

How old is the exhaust mate? The hangers on the stock exhaust are hollow and when they go they just go...

Exhausts standard one mate 100k never thought of that though it does sound more of a suspension issue.

I thought that with mine, until it was up on the ramps, and it was only being held up by the tail pipes and front flexi

Have you had a look to see if there is anything obvious? Is the grinding all of the time or just certain speeds or when you turn the steering?

Ah in saying that my brother in law has had to weld new hangers on in previous mots. Planning to get a new system at end of june or july anyway but hoping this is something simple. Such a bummer when you think the cars progressing then bosh another boot in the danglies lol

When this happened on my old saloon, it wasn't the exhaust brackets that had gone, it was the heat shield above the exhaust in the middle had popped a couple of screws and was hanging on the exhaust. Popped it into the local tyre and exhaust place and they just ripped it off saying you don't need it anyway mate. lol

My rear ones did that, I just put large washers on before the nuts to hold it up.

Had a look but didnt see anything but was getting dark when i got home last night. Dropped it off to go in tomorrow and get checked and get my inner and outer tie rods fitted. John its more of a knock when going over uneven ground but sounds feels like something loose, although the cars not handling too badly its definately coming from the centre front suspension or steering.

Havent had chance to get the wheels off for a look but looked in at each side when full lock on and everything looked ok. Very slight knock when stationary if you wiggle the steering wheel so hoping its the tie rod that was on the advisiory as having some play.

Ian back heatshields been riped off ages ago mate lol.

Cheers for all the ideas and replies guys i shall find out tomorrow hopefully

Well got the car back this evening and found the problem. The inner tie rod had gone from slight play to totally shafted so thery were replaced along with the outers though i have the old ones of those s they were not too bad so will keep for spares. They did tracking and tested and the noise was still there and it turned out a nut had loosened just a couple of mil on my passenger droplink and that was causing the noise. Be that ferkin ramp in the roadworks down from me, one of these metal covers they put down. All sorted now although he ran out of time to get my rear arms done but getting there. Oh and one of my exhust hangers is goosed also but still aiming for a new cat back soon so not too worried.
