Thread: play in the steering wheel

    Default play in the steering wheel

    Noticed today i have what can only be described as play in the steering wheel,
    Hard to describe rearly but i can wiggle the wheel without anything happening at the wheels,steering wheel sat dead straight ahead position?

    What will it be?

    just sounds like a bit of play in steering system dont worry ess its really excexxive turn wheel and wheels stay still lol

    bolt lose in steering wheel??

    Theres nothing untoward that sticks out so i'll play(no pun intended) by ear so to speak,
    Is there any uj's around the coloum etc i could look at or check?

    Wouldn't matter if there was, the steering wheel has a locating notch on the shaft that matches the steering wheel so it wont move independently of the shaft.

    This happened on mine and fixed it by tightening up the pinch bolt at the base of the steering column were it fastens on to the rack.
    You can access it under the bonnet behind the engine 12mm or 13mm socket if I remember rightly, hex socket best.
    Apparently they can work loose. Mine's an '06' Signum but should be the same on Vecs.

    as above micks quite right these bolts do become loose and can cause advisories/Failures on MOT's

    Agree with MickAP, my '06 Vec had the same issue and a simple tightening of the pinch bolt fixed the problem.
