Default Recommend my mum a new car!

OK guys... here's one for ya all! My Mum currently has an 08 2.0 Focus Titanium X Auto. It's a low miler and has leather, factory tints, spoiler etc... nice spec if you like that kind of thing. However, it is costing her a bit to run as the 2 litre petrol lump only delivers about 28mpg. Her friend has just bought a new Proton Savvy and the nice man at the Proton dealership is keen to take the Focus and drop Mum into a lovely new Proton too... . . . .

So here is the deal... please help rescue my family pride. Suggest viable alternatives to the abomination that my Mum is currently being coerced into!! She is getting on a bit, so I think her mind is wandering a tad lol!

    The criteria:
    - auto
    - hatchback/city car
    - high mpg
    - low running costs
    - good whack of dealer warranty
    - some creature comforts

I think that is it! As a starter for 10, I've started looking at Hyundais due to the 5 year warranty... but hey... open to suggestion!

Once you have a car, it will cost money to change, unless your down grading.
Just keep driving what you have got.

Citroen C3 diesel. 70+mpg loads of toys, cheap to run and insure. Just the poor residuals.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

New shape meriva, 1.3cdti, just bought my dad a new one and he's getting around 58mpg and it has lifetime/100k warranty, and it's not a bad spec.. Or a Zaffy, Just bought my mum a new one of those, a 1.9 Elite Auto, she's getting around 40-45mpg, both very nice cars..

Peter Griffin: Ah, c'mon, Lois, isn't 'bribe' just another word for 'love'?
