I see this earlier, mentions the same site you linked to Don..

Sony has shut down PlayStation.com, the PlayStation forums and Qriocity.com after a reported attack on the websites. The new exploit seems to have been caused by simply requesting a new password from another username and ensuring the correct date of birth is entered.
Sony has not taken down the PSN, but the websites remain down following Sony’s password reset initiative. Members of several gaming forums and major news sites have all picked up on the exploit.
Sony has not yet confirmed if this is true, but has posted to Twitter citing “essential maintenance.” They also noted that they are “unclear how long this will take.”
"In the meantime you will still be able to sign into PSN via your PlayStation 3 and PSP devices to connect to game services and view Trophy/Friends information."
Sony updated to clarify that “this maintenance doesn’t affect PSN on consoles, only the website you click through to from the password change email.”

Oh dear, Firmware 3.61 could cause your old / fat PS3 to overheat..

The PlayStation Network has returned worldwide - except for Japan - only for Sony's websites to be taken down due to an authentication error that could open up users' accounts to hackers again. Now, the platform holder has been accused of releasing a firmware update that causes some PS3s to overheat and shut down. The hardware problem appeared for a number of users playing Rockstar's L.A. Noire, but the developer has pointed the finger squarely at Sony.

"We have received some reports of PS3s overheating while playing L.A. Noire or beeping three times before shutting down/turning themselves off, mostly on older 60GB and 80GB fat models," read a post on Rockstar's support site (registration required).

"Primary reports seem to be that updating to firmware 3.61 will cause PlayStations to overheat. There have been various reports of this on a few different games now, all reporting their PS3s turning off or 'Red Lighting' after having installed 3.61. This can range from games randomly freezing to PS3s turning off anywhere between 30 mins use to two hours. We have confirmed locally that multiple games (Rockstar and non-Rockstar) overheat or freeze only when 3.61 is installed,” it continues.

"At this time we are recommending contacting Sony directly to report the overheating issue. However, this is not the end of our support; we are continuing to test L.A. Noire on all firmware versions and hardware models to isolate the issues and see what can be done. As always, we will update this article as soon as we have updates."

3.61 was the newest update release in order to shore up Sony's security prior to PSN coming back up. Sony has not responded to Rockstar's accusations yet.

Anyway, Im off to play L.A. Noire or DiRT 3
