Default Thinking about a Signum - some questions & your thoughts requested?

    Hello chaps,

I been looking at cars, well I havent because I have no money (thats where my parents come into play) and have just moved house, but I see this one every day for sale and its giving me itchy fingers. Its what I want as well but a pre-facelift.

    Anyway, its an:
    • 04-reg Signum Elite 2.0 DTI 16v,
    • Silver,
    • Full Leather,
    • Short MOT,
    • TAX,
    • All OLD MOTs (and I have done an MOT check on it and they all check out,
    • 17" Alloy Wheels,
    • Front Fogs, etc, etc, etc.

The seller is a home-trader. He says its got 65k on the clock with receipts and things, etc. I have been seeing it for nearly 3 months now

What you think? Whats it worth?

This is what it is like (this is a google image, not the actual car but its exact same): http://images.titaniummotors.co.uk/vehicles/vauxhall-signum-hatchback-2-2-dti-elite-5dr-auto-1652863080-640x480.jpg

Its the pre-facelift one, so all it really needs is a better set of wheels, smokey SRI front lights and thats it.

    What do you think?
What should a buyer look out for?
What are the potential Signum problems - if any, other than the usual Vec one's?

I drive a 2.2 DTI engine at the moment so know they are bomb proof but please tell me tell-tale signs to look for!

Also, on the last MOT's these are the issues that are advisories, can someone advise what they mean please:

    • Nearside Rear Seat belt insecurely fixed to the vehicles structure (5.2.1a)
    • Offside Seat belt insecurely fixed to the vehicles structure (5.2.1a)
    • Centre Rear Seat belt insecurely fixed to the seat (5.2.1a)
    • Gearshift lever faulty
    • Rattle coming from under the from of the vehicle (this was a couple of years ago but not here on the most recent).
    Please comment chaps.

    Bye bye Vec B

Best way to see if its a good price is scour e-bay/AT etc and see what else is about.

Problems? The signum doesn't really have any over the Vec as they use the same parts! As its an 04 plate, does it have a travel assist or the mounting for one? not sure if it was removed from standard equipment at that MY.

As for the rear seat belts (mot), Maybe they were just lose on the bolts for the mounting points, i'd ask why! But it maybe just they were removed for something simple and its been over looked as it doesn't say the fixing points are corroded.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

Right, I went to have a quick ganders at the Siggy and its a bit hit and miss TBH.

The interior is rough, it looks like its done 120k and not 60+k, but the miles are genuine. Its apparently come from Wales where the chap had a farm as there is bits of dried mud inside it.

Also, the rear seat belts dont retract back fully. It doesnt appear to have been repaired, but like they are worn or something.

It comes with the travel assist and is packed full of goodies being the Elite.

Only problem was I thought id check out the clutch and what not and it ran out of Diesel.

I like the car, but its very rough inside, such as the rear panels inside the boot space are all grazed and marked. Inside looks like its been home to a horse. The leather needs some major treatment. The centre display is losing some pixels, as is the instrument cluster, when it shows door open it is a little pixelated.

Dont want to buy a frigging lemon but I really want a top of the rack Siggy.

It all comes down to price. It will clean up and panels/displays can be replaced.

Sourcing lots of panels, in the right colour, is going to be expensive and time consuming. And if the mechanicals are in the same state as the interior.....?
