Default Information on Fault with Veccie

    Hi all,

I'm a newbie, in case you haven't seen my introductory post then I am considering picking up a Veccie. Have found one for sale local to me but it has a couple of issues (Although apparently priced accordingly) but wanted to see what you think and if these sound like normal issues.

I e-mailed the guy and asked about what issues it had and for clarification on an apparent Gearbox issue, and here is what he replies:

It seems to be an electrical fault rather than mechanical. When consistent power is applied in 5th gear the computer puts the gearbox into limp mode (keeps the car in 5th gear irrespective of engine speed) which can be cleared by turning off the ignition and then restarting the car. Through the lower gears the car drives and shifts absolutely fine, and when in 5th if you feather the accelerator the car drives normally.

I've had a friend of mine who works for Vauxhall plug the car into Tec2 and it reads a communication fault with the TCM (transmission control module.) Unfortunately I can't afford to put the car in with Vauxhall for diagnosis so haven't had it looked in to though I've been assured that it's unlikely to be serious.

The car is in very good condition all round apart from a couple of scuffs on the rear bumper. It will need a new n/s/f shock absorber before the MOT and the stereo needs recalibration with the ECU though the CD player and radio work absolutely fine - I had a quote on this of £30 but have just never gotten round to having it done!

I've priced the car around £800 below book value for a private sale to compensate for the above. I've had the car since September last year and have done about 30,000 miles without any issues other than the one with the gearbox. The only reason I'm selling it is because I want a motorbike instead.

So what do you guys think? It's priced at just under 2.7k, on a 05 plate with 77k miles. Worth a dabble you reckon???

Mine's an auto, and I've had no probs or complaints, but just had it serviced by local garage, and they said these new gearboxes (tiptronic type) are notoriously unreliable. Guess I'll find out.
Due to health problems, I've had auto's for over ten years, I'd say if the gearbox has problems, be prepared for an expensive time, or walk away.

I'd say this is a risk. If it were me I would not take the risk. You may end up quids in but there again you may be well out of pocket.

fella if it was really really cheap then yeah it would prob be worth a punt worse case could be a new gearbox or it could be the transmission control module a cheaper fix but still very expensive to fix
it would have to be very very cheap to take the risk

Yeah no worries, the search goes on! Haven't actually sold mine yet anyway but have the old credit card available if something comes up in the mean time that's too good to miss! lol.
