    I know you need to take mot certificate and log book to tax a car but do you need anything else nowadays i.e insurance certificate?

    My partner went to tax her bike and forgot her MOT ,... said it doesn;t matter as it's all 'on the system'.. tax obtained no problem.
    I'd take all three just incase

    Online you don't need mot or insurance certificates - that's the way to do it.

    do it online, they'll check its mot'd insured and send it thru the post in a few days, to the registered keepers address

    I always do it online. Think they ask for renewal form code or number off V5C, MoT and Insurance checked by them online, I also get asked for the DLA404 number, but that's only if you have disability tax.
