Default SRi Suspension - Interesting conversation with dealer

Just been on the phone to a dealer in the West Mids to bottom out a couple of queries I had regarding suspension components. The first one is that the top mounts can be different depending on the engine. There are two - 13188763 and 13188764. Apparently the latter is flagged as 'bad road' which means it would be fitted to emergency service vehicle and cars with sports packs - so probably SRi and VXR.

Now for the really interesting bit! Seems that Vectra SRi suspension components on the 1.9 (possibly others) were modified in 2007! A number of springs were released and then superceded - apparently the latest ones are thicker - can't imagine why . Also, the left hand suspension strut was modified in 2007! Apparently this may incorporate a redesign to prevent broken springs sliding out of the cup!

Needless to say, my Eibachs and Bilsteins will be ordered any second now lol!

Bits are always being superseded or updated - Signum boot switch I know is another example.

You have to ask..what was wrong with the orignial item to warrant a change?!

true true. got me thinking more about the 'bad road' options now... if bad road = police spec upgrades then i feel a possible blues brothers moment coming on lol!

There are several suspension components listed in EPC as being for the "Bad Road" set up, I thought they're for 3rd-world countries with poor quality roads. Are you positive that's what you want to buy?

I'm considering it! According to two different parts guys, they are uprated components used for emergency services vehicles etc.. obviously used to 'style out' road humps at high speed and improve cornering during chases.

    surely worth investigating this further!?

There are other parts specific to emergency vehicles, within EPC, but they don't use the bad road name, they're listed as being for "police vehicles", so you might want to get a second opinion on whether the bad road package really is for emergency services.

noted mate, thanks. i'll head off to lookers in brum tomorrow and sit down with their parts guys

a quick google search for bad road package does suggest that this relates to uprated components... although i don't want an increased ride height which might be one of the issues with the whole 'package'

    Taken from a Skoda forum...

"The package includes: (elevated ground clearance of 150 mm, reinforced springs, shock absorbers and stabilizer bar
and underrun protection of motor and gearbox) "

I know this is an old post but I thought I would add that the part number on my Top Mounts are 13188764 ie Bad Road spec.
My car is a 1.9 CDTi SRi Estate and they have never been changed.

On EPC 131887940is stated as "(For Bad Road Package) (Used With Sports Chassis)"

So I don't think its anything special other than SRi spec and can be used for uprating the non-SRi suspension
