    Default Brake Pad Wear Indicator

    Hi,

bought my first Vauxhall ever, yesterday

    2003 Vectra 2.2 Elegance.

It has 2 problems that I have come across so far...

There is a brake pad wear indication on the dash, and I would just like to know which wheels have the lead going to them. Is it possible to find out which one is at fault or more a case of replacing all the cables ?

Secondly, the bonnet release is temperamental at best. It currently won't open at all. The last time I had it open I checked the cable and it seemed ok, so after a bit of reading am assuming it just needs tightened.

I have read through a few threads about manually opening the bonnet with a coat hanger through the grill, but have not been able to do it yet.

Also read that the lower grill can be removed, giving access to the screws that hold in the upper grill and then remove it to get at the bonnet catch.

Can anyone tell me how the lower grill comes out - am afraid of breaking it lol

    all help appreciated

    thanks

Hi,Welcome to the forum - in respect of the brake warning lights( if the system on yours is the same as on my 1.9cdti) the brake warning sensor is fitted on the front left outer brake pad and operates when the pads are worn enough to allow the contacts in the sensor to make a connection with the disc, which completes the circuit and activates the warning light. You need to check the pads for wear and replace them if necessary - the sensor and wire also needs to be replaced or you can defeat it by cutting the wire stripping it back and connecting the two bare wires together and taping them. Obviously you wont then have a brake warning wear indicator when the new pads become worn. Hope this helps - sorry can't help with the bonnet release prob but there is a recent lengthy post that gives a solution how to sort it, Good Luck

got the bonnet sorted by removing the bottom grill and reaching up to get the spring.
