Default For those using 'the alternative rear light setup'

I work at a trailer place and was looking through the regs for rear lights. I have remembered why the alternative set-up may not be legal.

To pass type approval the fog light must be 100mm from the brake light.

Therefore with the alternative setup this regulation is not met.

However I am not sure if an MOT would pick this up....

    Anyone else agree?

No with the original setup the fog light is at the bottom, separated from the brake lights by a distance. With the alternative setup the fog light is next to the brake light which make the brake lights harder to see.

I doubt you would get pulled but if someone goes into the back of you when the fogs are on (rare i know) because they can't see your brake lights expect trouble!!!

Well if we are honest how often do we use the rear fogs anyway? lol You could turn turn the top one into a fog and the bottom one into a brake light I believe as the distance would still be retained (basically opposite)

mot only inspects the fact it is there in the correct place (on the o/s/r) and works fine and shows red light to the rear of the car and isnt affected by any other bulb operation ....the moveing of it will break type aproval and would void ins if found to be a reason for a crash ...
