Default is it time to trade?

Starting to get frustrated with my Vec. Love the car, love the way it looks but I've never had so much grief with a car.

    Past issues:
    • 3rd injector problem
    • alternator replaced
    • EGR valve replaced
    Current issues:
    • sump plug stuck and rounded off
    • aircon doesn't work
    • cruise control dodgy (suspect CIM)
    • and now, sounds like DMF on way out >
If it was just the DMF, I'd pay to have it replaced but since there are other issues I'm starting to wonder if its worth the hassle. At least my swirl valves are ok (for now).

As above, unless the DMF rattle is too evident - in which case your trade-in price will be affected accordingly.

Exactly how I was feeling about my 07 CDTI 150 XP, after 8 claims under Warranty/Network Q in 14 months, none of which were engine related, including the infamous Aircon Condensor, Alternator and Cim. (DMF and EGR had been replaced before I bought the car).

The sickener was that it followed 4 and a half years of owning an 04 2.0T petrol with ONE minor issue - auxiliary belt with pulley and tensioner. I initially wanted to 'get shut' and go back to ultra-reliable pre-facelift petrol.

When I calmed down after the 8th claim, I began to take the view that I now have a better car than that I started with as so many known problems had been sorted.

Admittedly still having Network Q, (paid for a 1-year extension (already used for the alternator replacement)) does/did help.

Thats also my problem, I've no idea what I'd get next. I couldn't afford an insignia (nor would I want one) or a new shape astra. Perhaps an Astra H but then it could possibly suffer the same issues so perhaps I have to look away Vx?

Don't have a massive budget as I originally was intending on holding onto the Vec for at least another year. I could probably add about £1000 onto the trade-in price for my 06 1.9 CDTi [150] SRi.

Issues? I've got issues! But resigned myself to the earlier suggestions that "better the devil you know" and "I've got a better car than I started with" as I haven't the money to trade in/up. Although granted your DMF rattle would be the decider for me.

Face it all cars have issues so you've as much chance of buying something with worse problems than you're getting rid of. I've had soo many issues with my Vec (nothing major I guess) that I'm nearly at the end of my list after 2 years, so recently decided to keep going with it lol. Air con and CIM is also on my "to do" list. Keep going!!!!

aircon I was going to live with since I don't use it much, I was going to sort out the sump plug and the cruise control (I use CC A LOT since I travel long distances with work) but the DMF is just the icing on the cake. I'm thinking I could spend probably over a grand fixing all these issues or I could use it to trade in for something else. Still not sure what to do.
