    Default Madchester Advice Needed

I! lucky sud have got a wedding in Manchester to attend next yr, what i'd like to know is where to go and where not to in the evenings, as i have a cockney accent I dont want fools at me all night because they think they have me at a disadvantage, I need to be among ppl who are genuinely welcoming for the right reasons you understand.

I'm gonna have a snoot at the football stadiums as well while I'm there, what else is there of good interest to see for a visitor.

And lastly, the ppl of the city, what are they really like, I hear lots of bad stuff about Manchester, but the sis in law swears by it and has no intention of coming home ever again, where i'm from is vile in some areas also.

get yourself on a stadium our of either ground (if red or blue) a great time at each if into football or there is the Salford keys with the Lowery centre
plenty of places of interest in the centre and my personal favourate is China Town for a great meal on a Sunday lunch not a lot of money but bl00dy good food

If you're into a bit of architecture/culture get yourself over to Salford Quays as Beavis says. As well as The Lowry, there is also the Imperial War Museum North. Stunning building (well I think so! ) and a walk around inside is very sobering! Man Utd is also just down the road.

The quays area in general is a nice spot and worth a walk around. I've only heard good things about the people from Manchester - friendly, welcoming etc. and that's what I've experienced. Of course there are areas of Manchester that aren't so nice, and best avoided. I'm sure the locals on here will advise.

Your right, no more. You could have a walk around Granada Studios and try and explain that normal people need a bit more entainment than " Celebratty, please text-in, we're deperate" shows.

Let us know when your coming VV, and I'll sweep the streets and make it look presentable for you.

Can't have people thinking its grim up north

Thanks chaps, she used to work at the war museum funnily enough, and that is one I'd love to visit, had a look at the link Dunc and they have a bomber command show going on but alas I think it will be finished by the time I get there.

Would have swung to go see Maine Rd if they'd still been there, used to have a thing for City as a kid when Dave Watson,Joe Corrigan,Den Tueart and co played for them under Tony Book.

I do need to avoid the bad side though, I'll be with family and react to injustice if I see it, down here I can get away with it because I know whats what and it gives you an edge against ppl like that, but in a strange place one can never be sure what the full starting price is, I just want to chill for a few days and come away with good memories.

I have heard the real Manc's are salt of the earth ppl from others, my father reckons *them up north* as he puts it were really lovely when he did his NS in the RAF during the 50's, I'm hoping the core of that still applies.

Thx again, you've certainly given me some pointers, and maybe if the timings right I can get involved in a mini meet with some of our local and surrounding members for a few hrs.

    Mines still standard btw
