confused Fronts brake disc worn unevenly on one side

I recently went to change my front pad and found a heavy groove on the inner pad on the nearside. On seeing this I checked the disc and found a heavy lip on the inner side protruding 2-3mm up and about 15mm inwards. The outer side of the disc is unaffected. It looks almost as if someone at some point put the wrong size pad on one side but had the correct one on the other

Any ideas as to what may have caused this?

I have since replaced both fron discs and pads but don't want the same to occur again if the underlying cause is still present

I should point out the lip was quite smooth but a lot of the rust broke away when I hammered it off

i think you will have to wait and see what happens with this new set of disks now.. It could have been a seized caliper or bad pads but time will tell..

Bad pads can do it - on two previous cars I've found that cheap pads fitted by the previous owners have caused the pad to bend under pressure from the piston, which makes the pad wear the disk unevenly.

I am thinking the sliders were gummed up causing the caliper to hold to one side?

i have just had a similar thing with a new set of discs n pads , there is a scuff plate on my front hubs that pushes against the discs on the inside face, only found it because of squeeling from the offside wheel, a flatblade srewy sorted it out with a few thou of clearence , thats when i found a reshaped metal coat hanger left at the top of the spring ( obviousley used for keeping the plug or pies out the way) , duerdons of formby deny all knowledge bless them...

Gave mine a pre mot exam yesterday and found front discs same as the pictures above - thought there looked plenty of material left on both pads but decided to get a set of pads and discs (GM ones via trade club @ £53 +vat) - The new pads are about 4 times thicker than the ones on the car - so will be fitting them tomorrow.

Once the car has done a few hundred miles I will check for wear on the discs too see if the problem was solved or not when I changed the pads and discs.
