    Default Dashboard illumination gone mad

Yesterday when coming home from work i noticed that my fuel gauge was only half lit, i thought that one of my white leds had failed, but when i got home and turned the lights off the broken half of the fuel gauge lit up and the heater controls remained lit even after the car was locked. I disconnected the battery for 30mins to see if that fixed it but had no effect. Has any one got any ideas what happened?

Try disconnecting the plug under the plastic steering column shroud?

I cleaned the ABS plug and the CIM module under steering wheel shroud and no effect,
I was sitting in the car tonight with then turned lights off and the fuel gauge and the heater panel were still lit for exactly 30 seconds the went off (The heater panel is dim and half of the fuel gauge is bright), when the side light are on all lights are bright except the half of the fuel gauge that is off.

Would this be caused by a faulty CIM module or something worse?

Are you sure there's not a short on the dash? Shorts can do strange things.

Its just strange that it is is just one led in the speedo cluster (right side of the fuel gauge) and the heater panel, I am wondering if one of my white leds in cluster is faulty.

If there is a short it could be causing the oddest of faults - as all a short is, is just electrical current taking a path it shouldn't. Then if you look at the intrument binicle circuitry it ain't the simplest, personally I would check to see if there is anything obvious.

All a faulty LED will do is either go on or stay off, when it does it is down to circuit conditions - if the circuit is complete or not.

OK , as long as you adjusted the temperature accordingly whilst carrying out the conversion and didnt overheat the circuit boards it shouldnt be that. I have mentioned many times not to use the wrong tools for the job , as problems may arise months later and not necessarily at the time of the conversion.
If it was me I would unplug each unit and see if the same problem occurs , if it does its more likely you have an issue with an ecu such as the CIM.
