    Vehicle : Saab 95

    Trim : Vector Sport

    Engine : 1.9 TiD

    Year : 2007

My first cars insurance, (corsa 1.2 8v, P reg) when i passed my test, cost me just under £1600 iirc in total, with direct line, passed in January, crashed it in December lol then it was about the same for a fiat punto 1.1 the next year
Check out direct line though as they let named drivers collect their own bonus now along with the main driver

    Couple of thoughts:

Pass Plus might help a little, although not everyone takes it.

    Advanced license thing?????

Buy a banger for a year and insure it for 3rd party only or insure the Corsa for 3rd Party only.

    Wait until he is 18????????

Feel for you and him as I know what it was like when I passed my test. I couldn't aford to insure myself on a car for 4 years and my Dad's company car didn't cover me

I started with a Escort 1.3 popular @ 17yo, bought for £300 ... couldnt get any insurance quotes for less than 2k!

now, i'm 22, and just had renewal on for £700 with elephant... its not cheap but its as good as i'm going to get i think.

Give elephant, bell direct and admiral a try. altho they are all part of the same group, you can play them off one an other.

Even now if I use the autotrader search the quotes it comes back with for my 2.0t is ridiculous! ... Cheapest quote from Autotrader was £1400 going up to nearly 5k! fkin idiots!

also, it will help allot if you add yourself as a second driver, on previous policies of mine this has reduced the premium by a considerable amount.

I just got my 21 year old daughter fully comp for a 1.3 Ka, for £918, and she's only got a provisional licence!!
Try Lloyds TSB insurance, I found it the cheapest.

Try Endsleigh insurance - specialise in insurance for students so are pretty good for young drivers. My mate bought his lad a Punto 60SX (1242cc group 3) and I spent ages finding insurance for him. Loads of quotes over £2k and finally got it for £1100 TPFT with Endsleigh in his own name - just turned 17 and provisional licence.

My 1st policy was for a MK3 Cortina 1.6L 2 door, cost £150 and paid in 3 instalments of 50 nikka, that was in 1981 though

And just to rub it right in, I paid the same a few yrs later for my 3.0 Capri Ghia auto.

Currently paying around £1100 per annum for full comp cab policy, 8yrs bonus protected early 40's, £400 excess

Having an excess might help, if you go for the 1st £500 it brings things down for you cos you are less likely to look for something to hit.

    Bobby,

Much of it is to do with the car, as you no doubt know..

they associate Corsa's and young lads with trouble..they know it's just a matter of time until the claim comes..

When i first started driving on the road, i had a group 1 car, a landrover. .. 55mph flat out and 16mpg.. but it was only £320 fully comp as it was undesireable to theives and i couldn't get into much trouble at 55mph..

sister in law has just took out her 1st policy on a 1200 corsa.. under £400.. and she's still learning!

Try thinking of an alternative car for him.. something that won't attract the higher premiums and forget the fully comp cover..do you really need it?? for that money i assume it's a nearly new car? does he really need one so new? savings are to be made by getting him an older car for his 1st year, it will be cheaper to insure and not so depressing when his 1st accident happens..
