think its bad for the ballasts, switching on/off with no power on (red ignition lights on dash) or when the cars running.i take it they come on ok when your car is running/ticking over?

yes its fine when the car is running...and if i turn the lights on THEN start the car, the right low beam stops working

Sounds like you've either got a poor electrical connection or a lazy ballast.

Have you configured the system for HID lights? When set for halogen bulbs the UHM (UnderHood electrical Module) modulates the power feed to the bulbs when the engine is running so that the nominal voltage never exceeds 12v - they did this to extend bulb life.

Most HID ballasts don't like this and it can cause strange problems like you are experiencing.

Anyone with a Tech2 or an OPCOM can do this - only takes a minute to do.

    Hope this helps!

The mechanic would need to competent in the use of the TECH2 or OPCOM. Basically he would connect it to the diagnostic port of the car (under the ashtray), log into the underhood electrical module and change 'Xenon headlights fitted' to YES. Job done.

The hard part will be finding an independant mechanic with either a Tech2 or OPCOM. You may have to go to the stealers and face the primates who won't understand what you want done!

does the battery have to be disconnected?or after activating the xenon headlight fitted option to yes, does the battery have to be taken off and put back in to reset anything?
