Vectra C Questions

i was speaking to a friend of mine today about which vectra to buy, he was telling me that the 02-03 vectras had a problem with the engine and i was better off getting a 2004+ model.

I also was wondering which vectra would be best to get, he told me to get a 1.9 over a 2.2 diesell as they as faster!?
is this true? i want a diesel over a petrol and had an 03 sri 2.2dti in mind that i have viewed but his comments have diverted me.

The 1.9 CDTi 150 is definately quicker than the 2.2DTi but are not available until 2004 models.

The 2.2DTi is a capable and reliable engine.... the 1.9CDTi is a common rail engine, and therefore is more efficient and in the case of the 16valve model is faster than the 2.2DTi.

Horses for courses mate..... All comes down to a few test drives and what your budget will get you at the end of the day.

I had a 2.2 and it was no bother at all. The CDTi's are a good step forward though! As Jamie said have a go in them both.

Consider a 3.0 V6 CDTi m8.

I was going to go for a 1.9CDTi until I realised there was a V6 available in diesel form.

It's worth it for the engine note alone from the V6!!!.

The 1.9 is a cracking motor though, in 150 form.

Getting around 38-40mpg so far in my V6 ( yes.....I'm driving it like a big girl ) that I picked up about a fortnight ago, and it goes like the proverbial ****e off a shovel as well, and thats before I've bunged a tuning box on it ( next mod!!! ).

I've got to agree too. Had a vec B 2.2dti then vec B 2.6 V6 now gone to the V6 CDTI. Boy am I glad I did, i nearly went for the 1.9. Power is unbeliveable, can't wait to map it next year. I too get around 40mpg on short runs. I expect to get 50 on long runs,, going to Bradford tomorrow so will find out then.

Try for SXi spec and upwards, seen some sub 5k diesels on auto trader today, around 80k miles, but thats not a lot for an oiler.

there's not really any more problems with an early car over a late car.. and if you want a diesel then it's all really down to which engine you want.. DTi or CDti..

DTI's have had a few issues on the forum.. but nothing so bad that i'd say avoid them..

CDTi's are faster for sure, but they haven't been problem free either..

End of the day, it's personal choice and budget.. if it were me, i'd go for a slightly older car with a better spec.. diesel's shrug off mileage so you could go back a year and get one with all the toys for the same money.

tonyx420, ask your friend what exactly does he mean about dodgy engines, which ones etc, first i've heard of it.
