2.2 direct oil leak

hi chaps my 54 plate 2.2 direct has an oil leak, oil is all down the offside side of the engine any ideas on where it could be coming from is there any weak points? there seems to be a water housing at the top of the engine and thats clean but everything from there down is covered in oil

check your oil filter housing, sometimes the rubber seal on the lid needs replaced

oil filter housing's bone dry m8, the oil is on the other side of the engine by the air filter box

Think theres a gasket on the timing chain area could be coming from there.

thanks graeme wouldnt know how i could check would you, i had the airbox out but couldnt see anywhere that the oil could come from without stripping off the top of the engine

Had a search on the 22 se forum and although its an earlier engine yours may have similar problem.

Edit not too sure how to check i'm afraid i only know becaus we spotted a leak at that side last weekend when ohn robertosn and i had the wheel off then i had my chain replaced yesterday and that seal was knacked

thanks for that fella, was hopping it would be an easy fix, ill have to do some research to see how difficult it will be to check behind the timing chain and see if i can see anything

Will be the oil pump/chain cover gasket mate.. common.. Only replace with genuine VX part.. Bit of a pig to strip down etc.

anyone point me in the right direction to take the cam chain covers off or will an haynes manual have the information
