Thumbs up Timing Chain done today!

Went down to wolverhampton today to get my timing chain done by Benny (the guru from z22se and also on here).

Top Top bloke and i am delighted with the job.

I set off at 4 am and got down there for 9.15 and benny had the car done and i was away at 12,30. 647 miles done

Glad i got booked in when i did as i had been getting a slight rattle and it turns out there was a sticking valve or 2 which had caused the air filter element to crush slightly and i aslo had an oil leak from the timing area. Had the auxiliary belt changed as well.

All sorted now and the difference is amazing. Engine is so much quieter and feels much better to drive. In fact passed the 100k miles on way home and dont think the cars ever felt as good.

Benny is great as well, he answered my endless questions and gave me great tips on the best service schedule for the 22se and showed me how to do basics like oil change. (i know easy but i am pretty useless) Also told me what was almost certain to be the causeof my air con not working which is a hole and bottom slat missing in the condenser, he advised me on my auto box oil and cheked it for me and told me about a recall i may not of had which may have been the cause of a coolant leak i had.

Baically a pleasure to meet him and a joy to watch him work and learn how to better maintain my engine.

If anyone has a 22 petrol engine and is looking for a chain replaced i would totally reccomend dropping Benny a pm either on here or on z22se.co.uk.

Can you expand on this bit please, as it's confused me: "..there was a sticking valve or 2 which had caused the air filter element to crush slightly.."

Well i am not mechanically minded but when everything was in bits Benny showed me a valve that was sticking and had marks on it, aparently proof it had been sticking and the probable cause of my slight rattle. Then when the oil filter element was being changed the old one had crushing on the sides of the element caused by a timing issue which would have been the sticking valve(s). Assuming these were part of the timing set up as the offending bits were part of the new kit and replaced.

As i say not very mechanically minded and was trying my best to understand what benny was showing me but that was the gist as i understood.

Ok, cheers. You threw me when you mentioned air filter, but oil filter makes a bit more sense.

I was £330 all in which considering i had been quoted £890 + VAT from a main dealer was a bargain but best to pm Benny if you are interested and get a price at the time you would be looking to get it done.

If you look at www.z22se.co.uk in timing chain section you can see peoples comments and pm from there or he is a member on here if you look in members list. He is very busy usually i think and doesnt give his contact details out on the forums but will pm them to you when arraging anything so i won't give them out here.
