Fabric Seats - Water marks (not Vectra)

Starting to pull my hair out my wife's Mini Cooper has fabric seats and the car was 'valeted' before we brought it.

Unfortunately the driver's seat has some water marks on the fabric which are unsightly to say the least.



Anyone got any ideas how to remove them ?

Use somthing like a Vax and do a wet clean again.

Unfortunately this is typical BMW, the fabric they use is very cheap even for fabric seats to make the it look like you get something for the extra money on the upper market ones!

I reckon a wet vacuum would get rid of that, but if it has been there a long time it may have stained. If so you try this;

If they do not come out you can strip the seats. I have done this a few times (which is why I know that even some kia seats have better fabric than BMW's!). Strip the fabric off the seat and put it in a pillow case. Sow the pillow case up and they put them in the washing machine. MAKE SURE IT IS A LOW TEMPERATURE! Use lots of stain remover and do it a couple of times.

Then rebuild the seat. You can get the proper upolstery rings, but I have used good quality cable ties loads of times and they certainly last. My seats have done about 40k on cable ties!

If they are still stained you need to dye them.

carplan do some upholstery cleaner. halfords or asda even. it is a foam spray and it comes with an aggitating brush end on the canister. worked a treat on some stains in the veccy. spray on... aggitate... leave for a few secs and then wipe off with a clean cloth. might help?

get it valeted and the trick is to lay towels down after its been done and apply a slight pressure to the whole of the seat base ei: carrier bags full of sand and that mops the rest of the stain up.

Not sure who valeted it - it could have been David Blunkett !!

I'll give the foam/towel trick a go in a week or two and will report back.

That looks like someone has spot cleaned the bits where the marks are, dont think they are water marks more like marks from some kind of cleaner. Buy some AG upholstery cleaner and with the use of even just a Vax you should get them out no problem.

the water marks are called Browning its the areas that have become over wet or have had something on them to stop them drying at the same rate as the rest. advice would be scrub and clean whole seat again using a good extraction system to make sure you remove all the water.
