Default Yet Another Airbox Mod thread sorry

Did this yesterday and I have to say what an improvement in pulling away in first gear not to mention the change from 1st to 2nd. So much smoother, I was generaly suprised by the difference.

For the last year of owning the car I have had a small problem with loss of power (only for a split second) when pulling away in 1st. I would never know when it would happen but caused me a lot of grief at roundabouts with people behind me wanted to go.

Since removing the top funnel I have done a 120 mile stop start trip and so far no loss of power at all. I would have normaly got it several (if not more) times as I do the same trip each day.

Also the car in its self seems smoother to drive oddly enough.

Im still on 38.1 mpg (1.8 vvt)

All in all im very happy with it so far.

Did the mod myself, I have a 1.9 cdti (120), big difference, not so much in the lower gears but 4th, 5th and 6th gears have a lot more power, much smoother through all the gears too, quite surprised by the results actually

Just take open up the airbox, you'll have to disconnect the air hose etc, pretty straight forward. When you have the box opened up you will notice a little bit of plastic at the bottom, you just pull that out. Mine was well stuck in so it was a hammer and chisel job, thats it

    Here's the how2 anyway http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15122

I done this a while back, funnel seems to restrict you using all of your filter, with it removed, allows all of filter to be used. For even better results put a k&n panel filter in place of your standard paper one and have a look at the '2nd' airbox mod which can be done, i done this on mine and had a improvement again from the 1st mod

Isn't there 2 trumpets, one in the bottom housing and one in the top? I thought the 2nd mod was removing the top one?
