    Default Avoiding M1 near M25

    All,

I am planning to travel to Slough within the next week. Last time i went down to Heathrow from Leeds i went M1, M25, M4. Is there a better way to avoid the M1 low down where the roadworks are? Can i cut off the M1 earlier and use dual carriageway to get accross.

The roadworks were a bl00dy nightmare a few months ago.

    Cheers for any help,

    Paul.

depends what time you're travelling down...the roadworks can get pretty busy and you end up crawling the 6 miles or so. if you're coming down during off peak hours then i'd say that M1, M25 is your best bet.

i don't know any other way TBH.

i'm off from tuesday onwards because i'm having a knee op....when are you planning on coming down, fancy a mini meet, providing i can drive.

For my two penneth I'd go:

    M1 from Leeds
    A42 at Junction 24
    M42
    M40 to Slough.

Similar to above Paul. The M40 is a great road, but look out for unmarked patrol cars -

Except at J10 at the wrong time of day where all the lorries are queuing to get off into the lorry services and the motorway becomes two lanes!
