    Default Are cars selling privately???

So I'm considering selling my Vectra

It's a great car but I'm fancying a 4x4 for towing and just because I've never had one before. Thing is it goes through me trading it in only for the dealer to whack a grand or two on it and put it on his forcourt after he's just made a grand or two on the car he's just sold me.

A friend of a friend who's in the trade reckons there's a glut of 4x4s in the auctions at the moment so I'm considering going down that route.

Question is, is anyone selling/buying cars privately? I think my car would be quite saleable as it's in good nick with a transferable warranty. I'd be interested to hear from anyone who's sold a car privately lately and how it went. Cheers.

Do yourself a favor and really research the 4x4 you are looking at..
There is allot to go wrong with allot of them .Also petrol and diesel prices are high so make sure you can afford to put the go go juice in. They don't do allot to the gallon compared to a vecci cdti.....Tosh

Thanks for the quick replies! Good luck with the sale lofty I'd be interested to hear how you get on.

That was quick critch but I would expect the Zafira to be easier to sell than a Vectra, may be wrong though. I suppose it's about realistic pricing really.

You're right tosh, I keep blowing hot & cold with the 4x4 idea, one minute I'm deffo getting one, next minute I get my sensible head on! My vec is the 1.8 petrol so average about 35mpg. I'm considering a Nissan Xtrail diesel which should be nearly as economical, plus I only cover about 8k per year. Love the look of Jeep Cherokees though but I know it would likely be a heap of trouble.

    Decisions decisions!

loads of 4x4 going through auction because people cant afford to run them, and need rid quick, realistically 25mpg is a good figure for even a diesel 4x4, so seriously consider the running costs before taking the plunge

I had a nissan x trail last year, had nothing but problems with it. Make sure you research it and pick a good one, only thing with an auction is you get to hear it for about a minute.

soft roaders, well Honda CRV's and Kia Sorrento's Hyundai Santa Fe' are good, real 4x4 Ssangyong Rexton, (yes really so I hear) Land Rover Defender's and big Jeeps such as the Grand Cherokee (but these suffer with Merc's swirl flap issues) X5's command strong money still but are weaker than last year, and avoid the M-class

I have read onlline that a CRV 2.2CDTi gets about 40-42mpg, and being Honda pretty reliable too (although everything has an exception so choose wisely!).
