    Default MOT advisories

    Good evening everyone!!!

My car thankfully passed it's MOT today, but a few advisories were listed.

    1) front tyres getting near legal min tread (old fronts were replaced today and then swopped with rears so it's the old rears that need replacing)

    2) OSR indicator light dis-coloured (orange paint peeling)

    3) NSR brake pad wearing thin

The indicator light & tyres are no prob, but any ideas why 1 brake pad is showing signs of more wear than the other side???

    I got a 2006 Vectra SRi 2.2 Direct.

Overall, not bad for a 5 year old car having it's 1st tyre change!!

I asked about the cambelt, but they said coz my car is chain driven, it dosen't need replacing. Is this correct???
    Any help much appreciated!!!

You are lucky on this one, some testers would fail that
The rear bulbs typically last about 3 years and the fronts about 5 years
Equally, it is more common for the OSR to fail first, as it is used more often than the NSR
    However, replace the rears together

    I got a 2006 Vectra SRi 2.2 Direct
This could be either a faulty brake component or more likely the TC / ESP (which will tend to wear the NSR brake pad and disc)
The rear brake pads are relatively cheap, so remove take measurements, grease, and fit new
Retain the measurements and compare in future
The life of rear brake pads is not very long

I've often found pads tend to wear at different rates, no idea why.

I'm fairly sure there's a timing chain service interval for the 2.2. You got a Haynes?

I don't think there is. Basically though, if it starts to rattle, then it's time to change it.

Thanks for all the info!! Yeh, about time I had a bit of luck lol. I had the N/S/R indicator replaced at last MOT.

I shall enquire about a timing chain service as I don't want to wreck the engine by not having it done!!

Timing chains supposed to be good for 100k miles, but as we all know with these that most of the time isn't the case, my old 2.2 Z22SE Vectra c started to rattle at 35,000 miles luckily had Network Q warranty at the time so was replaced under that, so as someone else said if you start hearing that rattle sound that lasts a few seconds after start up then get it changed.
    Cheers Pete
