    Angry threaded hub and bolts!!!

    hi,

was putting my wheel back on at the rear drivers side. and one of the bolts was threaded and even with a new bolt it won't screw into the wheel hub.

    So couple of questions?

1). Is there a minmum number of screws that need to be in to drive it?

2). Can the hole be re-threaded?

3). How easy is it to swap the wheel hub???

Hi, I had a cross threaded wheel bolt in one of my hubs after having my tyres changed, I brought an M12 x 1.5 tap and carefully cleaned the thread out on all five holes and fitted new bolts with no problem.
If the bolt still torques up ok to the recommended 110 Nm I think you should be ok, but if it strips the thread completely on the damaged one, you will either need to replace the hub or have a helicoil thread repair undertaken.
You can buy a helicoil repair kit of e-bay for around £16, but personally I would replace the hub.
    Hope this helps.

just bought a re-threading tool but still can't seem to get it to re-thread.

what is involved in changing a rear wheel hub on a vectra c?

Looked in the Haynes manual and it talks about needing a coil spring compressor. Is this right??

A re-threading tool....do you mean a tap or helicoil kit?..... did you get the right size and check its not left handed. You should have no problems running a tap through the old thread.

Coil spring compressors can be had for a few quid on eBay.

Pretty easy job to do rear hubs, can't imagine you'd have too many problems.

as rob says you should be able to retap thread ok,no compressor needed, calliper of 4 nuts on rear of hub and it's off,£80 to £180 depending where you purchase it from.

tap should be right hand....turn CW to wind in then reverse CCW to undo

what does it read on your tap..your tap should be M12 X 1.5..... if it has LH (left hand) on it then you have wrong tap.

if its M12 x 1.5 going straight through then you have completely stripped the thread...are you sure you was not using M10 x 1.5....changing the pitch to 1.75 the bolt wont fit
