Default looking at buying a 3.2 gsi

    Evening All,

I am looking at getting a vectra c gsi and looking for some thoughts on the car. I had a 2.0 sri 140 a few years ago and loved it to bits only got rid as somebody hit the back and as i hire car i got brand new 58plate 1.8 sri with the vxr pack n the big 19's it was amazing just to slow looked at gettin one then but couldnt afford one. I've seen a few on the old autotrader and that gonna go and have a look at a few and see whats what. I no its not gonna be cheap to run but don't really drink and don't smoke or do drugs i just have a petrol habbit lol

Just how quick are they and round town what can i expect to get mpg?

    Thanks

    Phil

morning! ... good choice if you don't mind 'slightly' higher fuel bills...I used to be a petrol head back in the day..(2nd car was 2.8 sierra..then on to rs turbos..renault 5 gt turbos etc..)..used to change my car every year...I've had my gsi for 5 years now and still love it ..and plan keeping it..ok it's not the quickest off the mark (though compared to normal family saloons it's quick) but on the motorway it comes into its own league...plus the bonus of toys and comfort... I average around 300 miles a week..equal amount of town/a,b roads/motorway and get 28-29 to the gallon..though this is a mix of taking it easy and 'heavy right foot' mode..off the shelf mods are limited to intake/exhaust/remaps though each give noticable results....get one mate..you'l be chuffed to.. 'edit':- to how quick they are... I think sources state 7.5s to 60 and 154mph tops.... on my own private track *rolls eyes* I've had 160mph(reading off tomtom(gps)) and chased many a scoob/porsche etc from 100 to 140-150..the gsi's seem are quicker at higher speeds....though had many 'jap' type things (sx200s etc) leave me for dead lol

Hi mate, I have had my GSi for around 2 months now and it is a very nice car, the fuel economy is obviously not that good, as said above you will get about 300 mile mixed driving from a tank, but you don't buy it for fuel economy, it is nice to drive and you do not feel you have to speed around everywhere in it. It also comes with all the extra's you don't get on most of the older model's of car's you will buy in the vectra range, Also not seen any threads with people having problems with the engine. My only downside would be, trying to get any extra BHP out of it will cost a fair bit of cash and you will see very little gain's, due to the lack of the turbo.

Hi and welcome as a new member. Great choice of car if you can foot the fuel bill. Got mine on Xmas eve and love it. There certainly not a slow car if you decide to plant the foot, but as ya foot goes down so does the fuel gauge lol. I love mine and with a induction kit and a custom exhaust the sound is just immense. Makes them sound very powerful indeed. Not had any engine issues as such just bad luck wen my starter motor packed up. Overall super super car. Good luck in finding a good clean one, would rekomend black in colour

You can't go wrong with a GSi.
I've had mine now for just over a year and the only issue i've had has been self inflicted (messed up the auto headlight levelling when i was lowering it).
As previously stated you don't buy one to save on fuel you buy one to use it and sometimes use it hard , you only live once.
At the mo i haven't really done much performance wise (stainless custom exhaust with a de cat and K&N panel filter) but at the mo from the last rolling road it was on it's approx 10 bhp more than the claimed standard figure of 208 bhp, next up will be a remap but only a limited number of places will do it.

On one final note do what i was going to do at first, i was going to buy another Audi A4 after my old 1996 one but see if you can find one with the same kinda spec as a GSi for the same money because you won't. The GSi is alot of car for the money.
