    Default 1.9 CDTI Blown Turbo

Just wondered if anybody else had experianced a blown Turbo? My SRi lost all power on the M25 on sunday afternoon shortly before chucking all of its oil through the engine and out of the exhaust in great style. (Although I don't think the rest of the traffic was quite so impressed). Vauxhall have taken it appart and blamed a failed Turbo.

Vauxhall now have my car and are fixing all the damage on Warranty. Brilliant!
Luckly I had 5k miles left before the 60k miles mark.

    Is this a comon issue?

    Unhappy

Oh, I do feel sorry for you. i had a Vec B 2.2DTI and the turbo went on the M6 last year.

Went to the Vx dealer. Took 4 weeks to repair, I paid £2k, Vx paid £750 & the Vx dealer paid £750 and parts were all at cost +10%.

Turbo, Valves, do i need to say any more

Should I make them check anything other than the turbo? It was completly dry of oil by the time I stopped?

My dealer repaired the turbo, thought that was all it was then they did a compression test. That was what picked up the valve problem on No1 cylinder.

Compression test has got to be essential

only had the turbo done on our 150CDTi last month..

took us 5 weeks of harrassing them to get it changed.. 1st fix to cure the leaking gland seals?? Tighten the hose jubilee clips

went back and 'persuaded' them that it was time to stop F'ing about and to put a new turbo on..

it runs like a dream now..

you won't need a compression test.. the 'blowing the oil out the exhaust' is all the proof they need that the turbo is gone..

a compression test was only done on willc01's car because he had other engine damage..

What you do need to insist on is an intercooler flush to remove all traces of oil from the intercooler and all the hose's with it..any oil left will make the engine run smokey..

Also get them to inspect the cataylser.. having that much oil down it will kill the cat and when the engine runs again the oil will burn the honeycomb structure of the cataylser causing it to break up and die..

Had all of this on father-in-laws renault DCi.. turned a relatavily easy job into a nightmare..

What you need from them is a garuantee that the rest of the associated components to the turbo and exhaust system are free from any present or any further damage, and get it in writing..
