    Default timing chain damage

I'm looking at buying a vec c with a Z22YH engine, apparently the timing chain has gone - fella in the car pulled over and turned engine off when it started to rattle badly and upon restarting, nothing.

I was wondering if the timing chain has gone, what's the extent of the damage likely to be? If it's a couple of bent valves and cracked guides then I can deal with that, just wondering what the likelihood of piston damage is?

I've changed a Z22SE timing chain before, and have read posts on here saying chain failure means a new engine, but how far does the damage really extend beyond the cylinder head? Thanks

Can the seller prove that he turned the engine off as soon as the rattling started? It's more likely that he tried to get home, and only stopped when the engine died.

No proof, but I'd rather go off the experience of other people than take someone's word for it.

Just wondering if this is worth a look or should I walk away? I don't want to be having to take out the engine or replacing it

Yes plus engine and you want a decent one plus fitting cost.

It maybe just a replacement head and away you go.
