SE Tyres or Chessington Tyres

Am having the front tyres changed on Saturday as they're getting a bit thin on the ground.

Tyre size is 215/50 ZR17 91W - Going for Goodyear NCT's

Now, I have always used SE Tryres (Hastings Branch) who can get them fitted for £120.01 - Not too bad, but, Chessington Tyres in Norman Road, St Leonards on Sea can do them for £113.50. Have ever only had one tyre fitted at Chessington, and didn't really "feel the love" when they did it. Last time SE Tyres did it, they weren't "that" careful imho when they jacked the car up causing the jacking point cover on the skirt to pop out and slightly distorted the skirt (Astra G) although it did return eventually.

Anyone got any opinions on either?

Swap the rears to the front, have the new tyres put on the rear

Also consider saving some money by going for the 225/45R17 91W
The nearest GoodYear tyre is the Assymetric but this has just been discontinued and replaced by the Assymetric
Should be no more than £110 each fitted

The jacking points on the Vectra C are easy to find, no reason to contact and/or lift the sill

Given your location I'd suggest Wealden Tyres. I use the Hailsham branch but there's one at Bexhill. If they are as good/considerate as the Hailsham branch then you won't go wrong.

Also, they are a fitter for Black Circles, so if you find them on that site for a good price you can opt for the fully fitted option and get them fitted there. Sometimes they've even bettered the Black Circle price when quoting directly - worth asking.

I'd seriously consider considering another tyre than the NCT 5, they are a pretty dreadful tyre - noisy and not great in the wet - and I'd also, as mentioned already, consider going to the 225/45/17 size as for the price of an NCT 5 in 215/50/17 you can get a better tyre in 225/45/17 as there's so many more different tyres made in that size.

Thanks for your help guys much appreciated. Trouble is, I can only afford to change 2 tyres this month and do the remaining the next so was looking at the same size as existing rather than change sizes.

Will have a look at wealden tyres and give then a ring.

So what's recommended then but not paying more than £120 per corner and getting them supply and fitted that I can turn up to?

You can have different size tyres on each axle, you don't need to do all four, just as long as you have the same size on the same axle i.e. 215/50/17 on the rears and 225/45/17 on the fronts, or vice versa.

I've switched from NCT5 to Michelin EfficientGrip - seems to be a better tyre.

OK cool, wasn't sure if I could do that as there is a difference of -13mm in diameter between 215/50R17 and 225/45R17

just to add it like alloys you can have 17 on frount 20 on back and pass m.o.t but not 20 on frount 17 on back biggest allways on frount lol

U considered the Neuton 5000's???...U just changed to them after 4 sets of vredistines over last 7 years or so..I m amazed at he grip and quality not to mention the hugh price savings..£125 delivered a pair,local fitting and balancing £15.00..delevered next day as well..

Last question, does it matter if I go from a W rated to a Y rated tyre?
