    Default Oh FFS!!!

Seriously SERIOUSLY hacked off right now.

Just spent most of the day cleaning and prepping my front brake calipers to paint them and then spent a good couple of hours as carefully as possible painting the calipers and inside and outside edges of the discs only to see that the whole lot is streakier than sodding danish bacon and looks absolutely sodding awful.

I now have to get some paint stripper tomorrow and try and strip it all back off again, although honestly I don't think it's going to get it all off no matter what I do, might be easier to just buy all new calipers, carriers, discs etc.

Never ever using Hammerite "smooth" (that's a damn laugh in itself) again that's for sure and a quick read around online shows I should have done some research before buying it, apparently they changed to water based a few years ago and ever since then it's been absolute crap and everyone warns against using it. Oh well, a potentially expensive lack of research, that'll teach me.

Seriously seriously ****ED off right now...

Oh well, good excuse for an upgrade. Thankfully someone's selling a set of 314's so getting those now and will be fully stripping and re-spraying those properly BEFORE fitting to the car this time

Oh dear, sorry for ya.. But, Hammerite is now water based??? Really?? I just checked on B&Q website, stills says "VOC level High" which normally tells me its oil based, and the safety info sheet link still says its flammable... Hmmm..

Heh, me being me, I painted inside the vents in the outside of the disks too and the whole lot just looks damned awful.

However as mentioned (and I've calmed down a little now lol), I'm buying Dean's 314mm set up off him and will be doing that properly off the car then swapping it out.
May seem a little over the top to replace it all, but that's just me and it's an upgrade I'd planned anyway so just means doing it a little earlier than originally planned for.

Once my old ones are off the car I can strip them, soak them in paint stripper and then sell them to get some of the money back lol

Interesting, I came across several sites with a quick google search where people were saying (and it wasn't official) that as far as they knew it was water based now because of the VOC2010 regulations. Maybe they're talking out their rear end lol

Won't ever be using brush on version of it again though that's for sure. I've used it in the past with no problems at all (years ago) so something's different. Either way though, I'm a bit calmer now and not worrying so much about it (see my previous post lol).

Thats very upsetting, but have to say I have never used anything except smooth Hammerite and even when very old as mine is now (tin is rusty on the outside etc, the finish I got yesterday was glassy and smooth.
