Default Insignia with the black stuff

I've been on here debating a new car, spent far too long on autotrader and really got no where. But now have come to the conclusion, the Insignia will be next for me. I'm in no rush, so always on the look out for the perfect one and if I can get a good deal then I'll keep waiting. Got my eyes on the diesel 160 model and have a few questions and actually after anyone opinions who owns one.

    - I know there are some underlying problems with the cdti 150 vectra, some have been lucky others not so lucky, but how many of these problems have been ironed out with the insignia?

    - What can I expect mpg wise compared to my 1.8vvt and the difference in power?

    - Anyone fitted a tuning box?

    - Looking at the earlier 09 reg, as its the earliest the Insignia's came out was there any teething problems that got rectified later on?

And if you guys see any please let me know, as I don't intend to leave this forum your stuck with me

Edit: forgot to ask do the cdti come in 4x4 at all?

My car is the 160c CDTi. The car is only 11 months old and has just completed 12,000 miles so hardly an extensive test but so far so good. My neighbour has the same engine on an 09 plate at around 30,000 miles and his has been OK too.

The Sri comes with Climate Control and unlike the Vectra I've left it almost permanently on. With that caveat I average 42 MPG. That's with no attempt to save fuel. If you drive it like a nun it will do 48 MPG no problem. I lasted an hour before losing the will to live.

In terms of power compared to the 1.8 there is no comparison. The 160 is plenty quick enough for easy peasy overtaking on the A roads and quiet cruising on the motorways.

Not me and never will. The engine is too fragile enough IMO.

Yep. Creaking dashboards, scored brake discs and some other bits and bobs. Mine is a 10 plate 11.5MY. and so far the only recall has been for the BCM.

There were loads on Network Q a while back and some dealers offer good model specific discounts from time to time.

In general they are excellent motors which are really nice to drive. My Sri Nav (with the CD 500 radio) is better equipped than the Vectra XP2 I had before. It came with climate control, electric drivers seat, full postcode entry for the Sat Nav, Aux input both jack plug and USB, rear vents, DVD MP3 playback (70 albums per DVD) and a comprehensive trip computer all as standard. Probably more stuff on top of that I can't remember.

Unfortunately it also came with an electric parking brake which I don't need and Hill Start Assist which I hate. It's bust on the Missus Meriva and it won't be going back to be fixed any time soon.

I have a march 2010 SRi 160 cdti and was averagin 43mpg, I have now fitted a K&N filter, twin st/steel exhaust and a DTUK green tuning box and by working out the mpg the old fashioned way I am now averaging 51mpg.
Damn good mpg for a car that weighs in at near 2ton. I am very happy with my Insignia and will be keeping it for quite a while.
A friend of a friend owns a piece of ground with a very good straight stretch of tar and I had my insignia upto 128mph until I had to slow down for the corners.
The car is mega comfy and I can travel 300 miles without stopping and feel relaxed when you reach your destination.
The sat nav on the CD500 is very good along with the cd/radio.
The electric parking brake takes getting used to but once you know how it works it is excellent. I will hopefully be trying out my caravan this weekend on the car and I will see how the brake copes.
All in all a very classy well built car at a realistic price.
I bought my insignia in November 2010 at my local VX dealer and I was in there this week with my daughter's corsa and the dealer offered to buy my Insignia back at the same price that I paid for it in November as there is unbelievable demand for white insignias especially with VX body kit.
Who says that vauxhalls depreciate quick?
