Thumbs up So My Car Failed The MOT Last Week.

it failed on rear left brake binding, excessively corroded brake pipes and fuel leak from petrol fuel filter.

cost £144.00 all in to get it all done which i thought was a bargain considering one garage qouted me £150 labour just to replace the brake pipes!

the car feels soo much better now! its actually faster, starts first time and brakes in a straight line!

i don't think the fuel filter was ever changed on the car as it mainly runs on LPG.

just thought i would share this info with you all so if you ever come across these problems you know where you stand.

My rear brake was binding so replaced the callipier (both sides) @ £37 each from VX exchange. Considering the high mileage mine is it made sense to replace both. Unusal for the brake pipes to be corroded, I have never had a advisory on any mot for that. Better give mine a once over just to be sure.

I got that as an advisory on my last MOT, and had the Vx tester have it up on a ramp so I could inspect. I wiped the road salt off, and it was fresh as a daisy. Took it off the advisory list. I asked why didn't they check that, he said they're not allowed to touch it in that respect, so I pointed out he happily touched and checked the integrity of the handbrake, lights etc........nothing he could say about that tbh, sometimes I think they put things like this down in an attempt to earn wonga from you.

well, my car came from the sea side, so it was pretty rusted down there tbh. the petrol fuel filter was in a proper state, was leaking around 1l of fuel a month! it is a pretty big job to do in regards to the brake pipes as it goes over the expansion tank etc, and apparantly sub-frame has to be dropped to gain access. i do trust my MOT station as i have been going there for over 9 years, the advice i got given by another garage was to scrub the brake pipes and get it re-MOT by him, that would've cost me **** loads with what he was qouting me for labour, so i thought i might aswell my normal MOT garage deal with it. apparantly the brake pipes corroding is a common problem?

i had an advisory on the brake pipes at MOT a few months ago, speaking to others since then i think its because i greesed them up and as someone stated mot tester cant toutch em and goes on how they look i am almost posative mine are fine like i said i cleand n greesed em up. ive had way older cars in much worse cond go straight through.
